For visitors to the area one of the first places people have on their agenda is a tour to Chichen Itza. There are three ways to get there. Each way has advantages and there are some cost you might not have expected. For people that like a little adventure and time to explore on their own, this can be a great way to visit the ruins. It also can be a good way for a group or family to save money and still get to see one of the most visited sights in Mexico.

In my quest to explore everything that is awesome in the Riviera Maya, today I had the pleasure of taking a tour to Chichen Itza. Once one of the most powerful cities of the Yucatan Peninsula, Chichen Itza was inhabited for about years before its decline. Kukulkan pyramid was recently named one of the 7 Wonders of the World ; I can certainly see why after visiting this amazing city. It is one thing to see this site in pictures, on television or in documentaries, and quite another to see it in person. I highly recommend the latter.

Chichen Itza is one of the new 7 wonders of the world , so it was on our must-do list during our stay in Playa del Carmen. If we had chosen to go by bus, we would have been forced to skip everything in between Playa and Chichen Itza, and once at the ruins we would have had to hire a guide there to take us around and explain the history of the place.

Hi everyone, currently at Pdc and I'm trying to decide what is the best way to visit Chichen Itza from Playa del Carmen? I won't be driving so it leaves 2 options? Then the return is at pm arriving in Pdc around 8 pm. So that gives around 4 to 4. This would cost less and we'd be more independant.

My fiance and I are going to Playa del Carmen for our honeymoon and are interested in a tour of Chichen Itza. We're in our late 20's and eager to sight see.

Im going to be staying in Playa Del Carmen in April and have decided to make my own way to Chichen Itza using the public buses. Does anyone know if the bus runs daily or if its only certain days of the week. I have found the hotel near Chichen Itza that I want to book but dont want to book it until i know which days i can get there. The option I have always used is to take the ADO bus to Valladolid , with 6 daily departures from Playa, and use one of the many hotels in Valladolid. From there about a 45 minute ride by frequent bus or collectivo to Chichen. The added bonus is, a visit to the nice colonial city of Valladolid.
