The other boleyn girl full movie

the other boleyn girl full movie

The Other Boleyn Girl is a fitting prequel to the Elizabeth movies: It's pretty, passionate, and full of historical poppycock. The philosophy of such movies seems to be that if the emotions come across, then the facts don't matter. But Boleyn Girl wants to have its relationship with history both ways: It frequently ditches history in order to flirt with catfights and sex scandals, but periodically slinks back to history in order to borrow a little undeserved gravitas. Unfortunately, the resulting relationship feels clumsy and contrived. Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson play the Boleyn sisters, Anne and Mary, alternately the helpless, victimized pawns of their ambitious family, and king-defying history-makers, as convenient on a scene-by-scene basis.

The Other Boleyn Girl

Best known for losing her head to the king, first metaphorically, then literally, Anne Boleyn Natalie Portman, saucy , along with her sister, Mary Scarlett Johansson, sedate , entered the court of the king Eric Bana, brooding and glowering when he was still wed to Catherine of Aragon Ana Torrent. His sexual wish was their command. - It is a fictionalized account of the lives of 16th-century aristocrats Mary Boleyn , one-time mistress of King Henry VIII , and her sister, Anne , who became the monarch's ill-fated second wife, though much history is distorted.

In the process, he broke relations with the Catholic church of Rome and created an independent Church of England. The new marriage lasted three years before Anne fell from favour, and lost her head to an executioner's sword. The story of Henry's earlier affair with Anne's sister, Mary Boleyn, was less well-known until the bodice-ripping novel on which the film is based hit the bestseller lists. The Boleyn family are a bunch of scheming social climbers, preparing to prostitute their daughters to the king to improve their station. Chucked out of France by his irritated wife, Mary sashayed back to England and casually notched up her second kingly conquest. The film's portrayal of this Boleyn girl as a shy, blushing damsel could hardly be further from the truth.

Anne Boleyn Natalie Portman stands at the scaffold, sentenced to death. Next to her hovers the headsman, his broad sword gleaming. All around, the crowd brays for blood. All of it, that is, except for her gentle sister Mary Scarlett Johansson , who watches with fear and apprehension. Suddenly, there is a rustle at the edge of the throng, and royal couriers hurriedly make their way to Mary, bearing a handwritten message. There are many such moments in The Other Boleyn Girl , a film that relies heavily on the assumption that its audience will be as indifferent to basic history as it is. The story begins with the Boleyn parents marrying off Mary, their younger daughter, to a decent but hardly renowned young swain.
