Like most teenagers, writer and actress, Paige Shay 23 from Refugio, Texas, USA, always wanted to have the perfect body but found herself stuck in a vicious circle of fad diets and over exercising where she would survive off 1,calories a day and went to the gym for an hour-and-a-half a day, six times a week. Despite being 9st 9lb, Paige, who grew up on a cattle ranch and has a rancher boyfriend, Dowling, felt trapped and restricted by her diet and monitored every morsel that passed by her lips. Feeling miserable and stressed out by this, Paige decided to go raw vegan in May last year with the full support of her family and partner. In a typical day, Paige eats every two-hours and has half a watermelon for breakfast followed by a big green smoothie, then mangoes and a banana for lunch. I was eating about or more grams of protein, so basically meat and dairy at every meal.
I would say I am quite healthy. I am a vegan and I eat a wholesome diet, although I do indulge in unhealthy vegan treats too. Plus I hit the gym or do yoga everyday. But recently I had let my nutrition slide, thanks to a few big nights out and a cheeky vino or two on the weeknights. And it was starting to take a toll on my body.

It has now been three months that I have been raw and vegan. The raw lifestyle is an amazing and magical journey, for sure. If you don't mind me being mystical for a moment, I have to say being raw feels like your cells are singing in harmony with nature. I have been on many diets -- probably every diet ever created -- but being raw is different. It feels like a way of life, not a means to an end. My instincts tell me something is different here.
This is my way of helping people not making the same mistakes I made that led me to huge health problems. I will also demonstrate good reasons why people should always be critical and believe in nothing but their own observations. A few years ago, I embarked on a raw food diet journey. On a raw food diet you only eat fruits, lots of them, vegetables and nuts and all this has to be raw, because cooking food supposedly makes it toxic, dead, enzyme deprived, and empty. At this time in my life, I was dealing with constant extreme fatigue, headaches and allergies. Doctors where not helping, so a promise to get healthy almost overnight appealed to me greatly. None of them seem to really know anything about nutrition though.
Back in I decided to go on a raw food detox. It was partly because I wanted to lose weight, partly because I felt like my body needed a cleanse after many years of partying it up and not treating it so great, and partly because I love a good challenge. I threw myself into this new raw food lifestyle. It really meant overhauling everything I ate and the entire way I lived. Without my even realizing it, going raw became the catalyst for dramatic positive change in my life, bringing more benefits to me than just weight loss and a cleaner body.
