The Gulf of Maine Research Institute's mission is to pioneer collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges. GMRI is widely respected as one of the top marine institutions in the Northeast, providing interdisciplinary scientific advice and technical support to aid the fishing industry, resource managers, conservation organizations, and seafood businesses in addressing the key challenges and opportunities of ocean sustainability and climate adaptation.
The world our young people are growing up in is changing more rapidly than ever before. We provide free, immersive, and authentic science education experiences that develop the universal skills needed for active citizenship and rewarding careers. No matter what path students eventually take, problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration will be essential to their success. Each year, we bring about 10, 5th and 6th graders from across the state to conduct their own hands-on research in our state-of-the-art learning laboratory. Students take on the roles of scientists and fishermen to discover the complex connections among cod, lobster, herring, and humans in the Gulf of Maine ecosystem.
We aspire to emerge as an international marine research, education, and community institution. Our success will depend on the talent and dedication of the people who work here. Our current staff comes from around the world and a wide variety of backgrounds. As GMRI continues to grow, we seek to hire bright, highly-motivated individuals with the right mix of skills, experiences, and passion to take every position to a new level. We look for prospective employees who will contribute to GMRI's core attributes: strategic, neutral, collaborative, interdisciplinary, imaginative, nimble, entrepreneurial, honest, and rigorous. If you are interested in working at GMRI, please check this site frequently. We post open positions as they become available across our research, education, and community program, as well development and administrative functions.
The Gulf of Maine Research Institute pioneers collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges. GMRI's success is dependent on the hard work of our staff, board members, and Navigators. We also make meeting space rentals available. We regularly post opportunities to join our team, including both jobs and internships. Here we answer some of the questions we receive most frequently about who we are and what we do. Each year, we take a look back to reflect on our impact and elavulate our progress against the things we set out to do. We make our financials, including endowment information, tax filings, and policies available to the public.
