Vincent van Gogh is postulated to have suffered from frequent episodes of depression, paralyzing anxiety and, according to some accounts, symptoms of bipolar affective disorder. Van Gogh is an artist whose work has been proposed by some to have been heavily influenced by his experiences of mental health issues throughout his life. Others feel his mental illness hampered his work, rather than driving it. He had two younger brothers and three younger sisters. He moved around several times in his life, living in the Netherlands, UK, Belgium and, finally, France. He died by suicide at the age of 37 on July 29th in Auvers sur-Oise in France.
When I graduated from Mason, my brother gave me a picture frame with these words on it. For me, this quote rings quite true. A way of loosening up, getting mind going, and opening a flow of thought. Most of my ideas develop in my dreams, as the quote suggests. I spend a lot of my time researching, scribbling down notes on anything I can carry back to my studio, including napkins.
When he was 16 he imagined what it would be like to ride on a beam of light how it would travel and how it would bend? He contemplated gravity by imagining bowling balls and billiard balls competing for space on a trampoline surface. Entrepreneurs have something of this too, outlier success comes from them going out of their way to be disruptive, to make people think differently. Likewise artists, thinking in pictures and images, using their imagination to navigate the human experience to present new ideas. Vincent Van Gogh was one such artist, where fantasy and reality merged in some of his most enduring paintings. With his bright sunflowers, searing wheat fields and blazing yellow skies, Van Gogh was a fanatic about light, giving the world many of its most treasured paintings.
Find out Van Gogh's story, how he came up, the logic behind every painting of his, and how his life ended. A very nice place to know more about this painter who cut his ear off some day, and nobody really know why. The place itself it pretty nice too, and is modern. We really enjoyed walking through this museum. It's well organized, informative and there are tons of beautiful Van Gogh pieces. My boyfriend who doesn't usually love museums really enjoyed it. It isn't huge either which makes it less daunting and easy to take in the whole experience.
