A review of the wild New York City nightlife of the 90s. The cast of characters who made up the infamous Club Kids speak candidly about that era, culminating with Alig's release from incarceration. Michael Alig James St. I go through stages of obsession with Michael Alig and the New York party scene he fostered. It's a weird obsession to have, tbh, considering party scenes make me uncomfortable and drugs make me uncomfortable, and if there's one thing Alig personified, it was parties and drugs. Glory Daze is not the first movie detailing Alig's rise and fall, having been preceded by the documentary Party Monster and the Macaulay Culkin-starring "Hollywood" treatment in Party Monster and yes, it is confusing that they share the same title.

Michael Alig born April 29, is an American former club promoter , musician, and writer who served almost 17 years in prison for manslaughter. Alig was a founder and ringleader of the Club Kids , a group of young New York City clubgoers that became a cultural phenomenon during the late s and early s. In March , Alig and his roommate, Robert D. In October , Alig pled guilty to first-degree manslaughter. Both men were sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison; Riggs was released on parole in , Alig on May 5, His mother, a native of Bremerhaven , Germany , moved to the United States after marrying his father, a computer programmer.

When I was 14, and a little black clad goth queermo from a small town in the middle of buttfuck nowhere BC, Canada, I first heard about the club kids. A bunch of wacky dressed freaks on drugs who had taken over the New York night life with their particular brand of drug induced fuckery and childlike playfulness. I had bigger things in mind for myself than what my life in a smalltown in BC would hold. I was into dressing wild, being wild and living wild, which was pretty well the antithesis to everything that was stood for in my town. Finding out that a little small town nancy boy named Michael Alig had led a revolution of freaks to the front door of fame and then horrifically and somehow beautifully had fallen from grace in the same drug induced frenzy that had highlighted the whole debacle was awe inspiring to me.
